The Original Work:
The prototype of this bronze bison statue comes from the bison of the World’s Fair in Humboldt Park. This bison image was originally created for the World Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893. Since the sculptures and buildings in the exposition are temporary, so artist Edward Kemeys made them out of plaster and plant fiber material. Later, because this sculpture was very popular with people, some artists made bronze statues using this image. Now The World’s Fair Bison stand at the east entrance to the formal garden, west of N. Humboldt Drive and north of W. Division Street. Humboldt Park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
