Fernando Botero created this famous bronze sculpture in 1990 and created a second one in 2000. Story Behind the Bird:
In June 1995, a terrorist attack occurred in San Antonio Plaza. Terrorists buried a bomb inside the “Bird”, which caused many casualties after the bomb detonated. Fernando Botero despised and condemned this cowardly behavior, and refused to remove the damaged sculpture. He created the same work in 2000 and placed it next to the damaged one. He named this new sculpture El Pajaro de la Paz (Bird of Peace) in memory of the victims.
Professional Masters to Cast:
Finishing a perfect bronze sculpture has to experience more than 30 steps. For this large bronze bird, our casting masters apply the traditional lost wax method and cast different parts of the sculpture. Then excellent welding masters would firmly weld those parts together by applying spot welding technique and full welding technique. After that, our polishing masters would remove the welding marks on the surface of the sculpture.
